What A Strange and Lonely New World… If Our Devices were ‘Removed’

American photographer Eric Pickersgill ongoing ‘Removed’ series plays with our extreme device addiction and how it entered our life in a way.

What a crazy, sad and lonely world we live in 🙁 From social medias controlling part of our life to the technology dictating our moods and getting us only more lonely than connected.

American photographer Eric Pickersgill ongoing ‘Removed’ series plays with our extreme device addiction and how it entered our life in a way that, if the device suddenly disappeared, we might look lonely, slightly crazy or perhaps next to a person being ignored…

As we are sucked in more and more by the screens we carry around, even in the company of friends and family, the hunched pose of the phone-absorbed seems increasingly normal. A sad reality, but thank you Eric for alarming us and maybe pushing us to an awakening…

The work began as I sat in a café’ one morning. This is what I wrote about my observation:

family sitting next to me at illium café in troy, NY is so disconnected from one another. not much talking. father and two daughters have their own phones out. mom doesn’t have one or chooses to leave it put away. she stares out the window, sad and alone in the company of her closest family.

“dad looks up every so often to announce some obscure piece of info he found online. twice he goes on about a large fish that was caught. no one replies. mom has her phone out now.”
