The 2025 APA Emphasize Epic and Endangered Migrations

The awards highlight urgent conservation themes, as many migratory birds face extinction due to climate change.

The 2025 Audubon Photography Awards spotlight the epic and endangered migrations of bird species across the Americas. This year’s competition features two regional groupings—Canada/U.S. and Chile/Colombia—with categories including Youth, Conservation, Birds Without Borders, and Birds in Landscapes.

Notable Winners:

  • Grand Prize (Chile/Colombia): Felipe Esteban Toledo Alarcón’s dynamic shot of a ringed kingfisher in flight.
  • Top U.S./Canada Entry: Liron Gertsman’s silhouette of magnificent frigatebirds against the sun.
  • Special Mentions: Barbara Swanson’s Brandt’s cormorant amid red algae, Taryn M. Ware’s acorn woodpecker, and Caro Aravena Costa’s Chilean flamingos.

The awards highlight urgent conservation themes, as many migratory birds face extinction due to climate change. Audubon’s cross-border initiatives aim to protect these species year-round.
