Recap 2020: Who We Are & Who We Want To Become In A New Flow of Time

Takashi’s work is a reminder to our current reality which contains strange times as a result of the pandemic and the necessity of social distancing.

The work by Japanese artist Takashi Kuribayashi explores the boundaries that separate human civilization from the natural world. His work is the outcome of being confronted with ‘restricted zones’ or ‘no-go areas’ in the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear accident. Being faced with the impossible long-lasting and yet invisible borders, he set himself to investigate this and making these borders visible in his work by weaving a new flow of time with his installations.

Takashi’s work is a reminder to our current reality which contains strange times as a result of the pandemic and the necessity of social distancing. We experience either visible or invisible borders to keep distance from each other, which is not in our nature.

The artist’s latest work led him to the figure of the niwashi (a gardener), which symbolizes for Takashi “a gardener of the mind”. The Niwashi waters the mind of the children growing up in the city and helps these children and young people to cultivate the consciousness, that they themselves are the seeds that they can sprout to grow.

Which is a beautiful reminder to take these times that have forced us to slow down and take a look at who we are and who we want to become.

At the end of this year, we also try to review the efforts and attempts made in the life paradigm, and if it weren’t for the epidemic, could we have a more thoughtful lifestyle and use natural and simple wisdom?

(中文) 摄影的优势就是在这个地方,它能够把一个客观存在的东西告诉你,不一定是真相,但是一种存在。这个存在背后可能有一种更为抽象的这种空间,它用具象的东西来表达抽象的概念。
