Let’s Go To The Outskirts Of Marrakech And Discover The “Artist’s Oasis”

Now Submit Your Works, eight studios allow to welcome nearly thirty artists per cultural season, in a preserved environment, conducive to experimentation and dialogue.

Jardin Rouge is an astounding artists’ residency nestled nearby a typical Moroccan village in the outskirts of Marrakech. Launched by the private Montresso Art Foundation, Jardin Rouge is a haven where contemporary (and Street Art) artists of various backgrounds are invited to build an artistic project in a flexible timeframe.

The foundation imagined a sanctuary where artists are given all the necessary means to source their inspiration, reflect and experiment in a unique environment. Much more than an artist’s workshop, Jardin Rouge is an intimate space where worldwide amateurs, collectors, and art critics can exchange over their passion for art.

This immense playground surrounded by orange/red brick walls, exquisite olive grove gardens and sculptures in every direction, immediately captivated us. The areas are composed of workshop layouts and dominating art pieces in strikingly decorated rooms.

The first artists to lay a footprint in the Jardin Rouge were a carefully curated mix from the international street art scene. In may 2014 it hosted the successful “Behind the Red Wall” event where the works of three generations of graffiti artists were showcased post residency – TATS CRU, ECB, TOAST, Jace and 123Klan to name a few.

On a larger scope, the Montresso Foundation is setting Marrakech as an innovative artistic city through the initiation of outside projects with local actors and its active participation in international events. It has also inaugurated in April 2016 a 1300m2 exhibition space that will reveal emerging as well as established artists on a land of contrast, with works that resonates with inter-cultural dialogues.

Settled in Morocco since 2009, the Montresso Art Foundation is a hybrid place that aims to support the creation and promote the diversity of fields of the current artistic research. The artistic residency Jardin Rouge supports and accompanies for nearly ten years the research of international artists.

Now Submit Your Works, eight studios allow to welcome nearly thirty artists per cultural season, in a preserved environment, conducive to experimentation and dialogue. Focused on the theme of territories, Jardin Rouge is a creative laboratory in which artists benefit from research time but also help with visibility.
